Endlichkeiten-Was vergeht? (Finities - What passes?)
How can you do art experiments with TIME?
Would you like to paint a WATER PICTURE and watch the CLOUD CINEMA?
Have you ever watched an ice cube MELT?
As part of the project "Endlichkeiten - Was vergeht?" the wirbeide artists' collective
is hosting a workshop and an outdoor art challenge.
The workshop took place in July 2021 at Bornholmer Grundschule in Berlin - Prenzlauer Berg.
The Challenge was held online from 3-14 July 2021, but can be repeated on this website for all eternity.
You can participate at any time in any place, alone or together with others.
Let´s go!
DAY 1 (3 July 2021)
What plants live near you?
Go outside and make notes about the plants in your neighbourhood: What do they look like? Where are they?
How many are there? Then go back home and make a map showing the plants.
Send us a photo of the map.
Day 2 (04.07.2021)
Your plant
Choose a plant on your map that you want to visit again today. Photograph it 3 times today: in the morning, at midday and in the evening. Send us the photos.
Take care of your plant during the challenge period.
Day 3 (05.07.2021)
Make a place more beautiful
Make a garland or mobile out of whatever you find.
Hang it outside in a place you like.
Day 4 (06.07.2021)
A picture made of natural materials
Paint a picture with sand on a stone floor or with a stick in the sand. You can also add other natural materials.
Send us a photo of your picture.
Day 5 (07.07.2021)
The changed picture
Return to your sand painting with a water bottle and see what it looks like now. Take a photo.
Now work on your picture further: You can paint on the sand or the stone floor with the water you brought with you. Dig up a small plant with roots and add it to the picture. Take a photo of the new picture.
Send us both photos.
Day 6 (08.07.2021)
Melt away
Take an ice cube outside and put it in a place where you can watch it. If you like, you can take some music or a book with you. Stay with the ice cube until it has gone.
Take 3 photos: one at the beginning, one when the cube is half gone and one when it is gone.
Day 7 (09.07.2021)
The letter
Write a letter to a person in the future. Put it in an envelope and hide it in a busy place in the city.
Day 8 (10.07.2021)
Listen
Find sounds you like. Which sound gives you a warm feeling? Collect 5 sounds. Record a sound (using the record function or a voice message) and send it to us.
Day 9 (11.07.2021)
Sky cinema
Make a frame out of material you find (e.g. branches). It should be big enough for you to look through in a comfortable position. Lie on your back and watch a piece of sky through the frame for 10 minutes. Set an alarm clock and make 7 notes about what you see.
Send us three of your notes.
Day 10 (12.07.2021)
Mirror images
Find a mirror that you can go outside with. Mirrors without frames work best. Try different things with the mirror.
For example:
- Put it against a semicircle
- Place it so that you can see something that you would otherwise have to contort yourself to see.
- Let a light reflect in it.
- Use the mirror as a hiding place.
- Double something.
Take pictures of your experiments and send them to us.
Day 11 (13.07.2021)
Small animals
Search for ants in your neighbourhood. Make something small for them out of materials they like to eat.
Return some time later and see what has happened to your construction. Send us your before and after pictures.
If you can't find any ants, you can just make something like this out of sweet material. Put it outside in a sheltered place. Observe which animals are interested in it.
How is the plant you are currently taking care of?
Day 12 (17.07.2021)
Memories
Paint a picture on fabric. Look for liquids that you can use as paint. For example, coffee, tea, watermelon or berries.
Paint a memory from the challenge.
