In her thesis, the artist/reseacher Emilia Schlosser investigates folds (in textiles) to create a new approach within curatorial methods. Moving at her own pace and by referencing Deleuze and Haraway among others, she invents a way of fabricating context using the example of Lotte Reimanns work "Temptation or Dr. de Clérambault". In close collaboration with the graphic designer Anna Breit, they developed a book referencing the concepts of non-linearity and constant recontextualization.
The text consists of various short chapters, examining the relationship of language, theory and physical texture. These chapters function as folds that are all part of the wider fabric of knowledge but can be layered, draped and crumpled to find new thoughts withing their combinations.The footnotes continue just like running text, forcing the reader to flip back and forth through the pages to get to the needed note. If the essay deals with images, those images appear in miniature and black and white including a page reference immediately in the sentence. All images are gathered in the back of the book, printed in color – again compelling the reader to keep turning pages in the process of absorbing the idea of the fold.
